Portfolio Development

Taking a workshop with Design Labs Canada was one of the most valuable experiences of my design journey. The session wasn’t just a class — it was a personalized, one-on-one opportunity to reflect critically on my work, ask the hard questions, and learn to present my ideas with clarity and purpose. The instructors took the time to understand my goals, provided thoughtful feedback on my portfolio and skills, and helped me see how to elevate my projects in ways I hadn’t considered before. After the workshop, I felt more confident in my work, better prepared to take the next steps, and genuinely inspired to continue developing as a designer.

Drawing and design skills are always being developed by engineers and allow them to better communicate their ideas to non-technical stakeholders. The workshop by DLC has helped me reach career milestones through improved communication with stakeholders from various backgrounds and disciplines.

The team at Design Labs Canada taught me how to approach ambitious goals and aspirations within the design field. I worked closely with the team and formed meaningful relationships throughout the experience. They helped me develop critical software skills, build a strong portfolio, and ultimately gain admission to my top-choice institution. More importantly, they showed me the real impact design can have within my community.

I believe Design Labs Canada is an incredible opportunity for anyone interested in design and architecture. I plan to stay involved and continue contributing to the growth of the design community in Canada.

Portfolio building can be an intimidating and complex process, but working with the Design Labs Canada team made it feel much more approachable and exciting. Learning one-on-one from people already practicing in the field provided an invaluable firsthand perspective, thoughtful mentorship, and honest feedback. Through this course, I developed a portfolio that helped me gain admission to a competitive architecture program, but more importantly, helped me build the skills, mindset, and confidence to continue applying design thinking to future opportunities. I would highly recommend Design Labs Canada to anyone navigating a new path in design or looking to strengthen their creative work.
